I was so excited when I got connected with Abbey. She is an amazing entrepreneur and I knew right off the bat she was going to be a perfect fit for The Teenpreneur Conference. She will be joining us in June to run a few sessions and give a keynote speech! See you in June! Eva
Hi, I’m Abbey! In a nutshell, I’m a creator, communicator, and coach who opted out of college.
Taking a Different Path
If you had asked me five years ago where I wanted to be today, this is far from what I would have told you. I always imagined myself going to college, getting a degree, working a job and creating a career in the most straightforward path you could imagine. That was the plan, until something inside of me started to tell me to scratch the plan and do something crazy.
As I approached the end of high school, I had this unignorable urge to create. I wanted to start something awesome. I’ve always been entrepreneurially minded, but this urge was stronger than anything before. In the four years of high school, I embarked on at least six different business ventures. Graduating high school and starting a four year degree seemed more and more discouraging the stronger this urge to create got.
Fast forward a few months. I joined Praxis, an apprenticeship program dedicated to helping young people take hold of their careers. I moved to Austin, TX, attempted to start a company and realized in a very short amount of time that I was desperate for a team of people to work with. Fast forward through a few more difficult months, and I moved to Washington, D.C. to work at an economic research center called the Mercatus Center.
Today, at 19 years old, I’m working with an incredible team of entrepreneurial minds at my dream job. I look at my life now and I’m incredibly grateful. I’m grateful for Praxis and the connections it’s given me, I’m grateful for the itch to create that kept me going every single day.
It’s hard to be a young entrepreneur! But it’s also one of the best experiences of life. There’s a lot more to my story and I’m excited for the opportunity to share some of my crazy experiences at The Teenpreneur conference. Stop by one of my sessions to learn how to stand out as a young person in a world of adults, to learn how to pitch and communicate your ideas effectively, how to create actively create the life that you want for yourself, and even how to chose the people you work with.
See You in June!
This is my story, but I can’t wait to hear yours. Every young entrepreneur is unique and I learn something new every day by hearing these crazy stories. Make sure you stop me to say hello and tell me all about what you’re doing.
