I had no idea when Eva started TeensGotCents in January of 2013 that it would grow from a school project to a full time business. I did know that running her own website while writing, interviewing, and speaking in our community would help her learn the basic communication skills I wanted for her, as well as help her grow into a more confident person.
To be honest, I really can’t think of a better way for a teen today to learn about life and success and what they can achieve through hard work than for them to develop their own business. Learning about something is essential, but doing it is where the real learning takes place. I’ve experienced this in my own life and seen it happen for countless entrepreneurs. Teens are no different.
There will be general sessions for parents and teens to learn and be together, as well as break out sessions designed for each group specifically. Parent sessions will focus on how we can best support our teenpreneur and practical ways to do so. Sessions will be mapped out carefully so that your teen leaves with a solid plan for establishing or growing their business.
We have a number of successful teen business owners who will be speaking as well as young adults who will share their entrepreneurial stories with us all. We might even sneak in a full-fledged grown up for a session or two, but don’t tell anyone!
Eva has had amazing opportunities (and a few dismal failures) as a teen business owner. I could never have anticipated the positive outcomes when we started nor could I have taught her all she has learned through doing it herself. These experiences have made her a better person, prepared her for adulthood and helped her see a world of career and business opportunities she would never have know about otherwise.
I look forward to meeting you and your teenpreneur in Jacksonville this June. This is a great opportunity for you to partner with your teen and give them the tools they need to reach their goals. I cannot wait to see what they achieve together!
Blessings,
Charlotte, Eva’s mom
